2027 GMC Sierra 1500 is GM’s newest full-size pickup truck that should launch later this year, but here’s an early look at the cabin of GMC’s redesigned version.
GM is gearing up to launch a new generation of its hugely popular full-size pickup truck. So far, our spy photographers have spotted a few camouflaged Chevy Silverado 1500s on the road, but now we have our first look at its mechanical twin, the GMC Sierra 1500.
These new spy photos not only help us see some of the differences between the front and body designs of the Silverado and Sierra, but they also give us a good look at the GMC’s interior, which includes some interesting features.
2027 GMC Sierra 1500 Overviews
Replacing the previous generation, which went on sale in 2019, the completely redesigned 2027 GMC Sierra 1500 is coming soon. Here’s what we think you can expect.

The Sierra seen in the picture above is most likely the top-of-the-line Denali model, judging by the electrically operated footrests and Bridgestone Alenza tires mounted on 22-inch wheels.
While GM patent images leaked last year provided an early glimpse of the Silverado, we still don’t know much about the Sierra’s final design. However, these images do reveal that the Sierra will likely have GMC styling cues, starting with a unique grille design and alternative headlight layout.
The midsize GMC Canyon appears to have inspired the larger Sierra’s wide, muscular fenders; its squared-off wheel arches also bear a resemblance to the Sierra EV. There are other variations between the next-generation Silverado 1500 and its GMC sibling.
In addition to the GMC’s vertically oriented front tow hooks, its hood features a power bulge in the center, while the Chevy’s hood has two bulges closer to the outer edges. Both trucks still have rear bumpers with integrated steps at the corners, and we can see the outline of a multi-function tailgate.
- The next-generation GMC Sierra 1500 is coming soon, and new spy photos reveal more details, including a pretty clear look at the interior.
- GMC’s full-size trucks will have large horizontal touchscreens, and we can clearly see a physical volume knob as well as a row of real buttons.
- The latest spy photos also confirm that GM’s next-generation half-ton truck will still offer a diesel engine, which will be complemented by a new small-block V-8 engine.
2027 GMC Sierra 1500 Redesign
However, rumors are already strongly suggesting that General Motors will be making a major move with a new iteration of its full-size pickup truck lineup. Thus, both the 2027 Chevy Silverado 1500 and the next-generation GMC Sierra 1500 are confirmed to hit the market later this year, introducing a comprehensive suite of upgrades.
Both pickup trucks will feature a new exterior design, new powertrain options, an updated platform, and a variety of new technologies.
Of course, members of the creative community of digital car content creators scattered across the various CGI vehicle universes didn’t want to be left behind – and here come the good folks from the “AutoYa” info channel on YouTube, who have a branch channel called “AutoYa Interior,” and wanted to show us their vision of the all-new sixth-generation GMC Sierra 1500.

2027 GMC Sierra 1500 Prototype
A 2027 GMC Sierra 1500 Denali was recently spotted on the road, giving us our first glimpse of what the new model will look like later this year.

The Sierra 1500 Denali prototype has the production lighting system hidden under a layer of camouflage, with portions of its signature LED headlights, projector headlight units, and bumper-mounted fog lights visible.
The Denali 1500’s grille, consisting of about 10 thin horizontal slats, was seen without camouflage netting for the first time. The prototype rides on Bridgestone Alenza tires, the Denali truck’s flagship tires, which come with 22- or 24-inch wheels.
2027 GMC Sierra 1500 Design
The bodywork can’t hide the new Sierra’s bolder surface developments applied to its front and rear fenders. The flared rear end and fenders are inspired by the aggressive styling of the Sierra’s mid-size sibling, the GMC Canyon. The squared-off wheel arches appear to be borrowed from the GMC Sierra EV.
In addition to the unique side body surface development, we see further differences between the 2027 GMC Sierra 1500 and its competitor, the Chevy Silverado. The GMC gets a unique hood design featuring a wide power bulge in the center of the hood (the Silverado has two bulges that cover the outer third of the hood).
The front bumper also shows differences from what we’ve seen on less camouflaged 2027 Silverado prototypes, with the GMC featuring vertically oriented tow hooks and revised lower air intakes.
Details of the tailgate are visible through the camouflage, and we can see the cutout for the Sierra 1500’s new multi-function tailgate. These new photos strongly suggest that GMC’s new full-size truck will adopt the MultiPro tailgate used on the Sierra EV, albeit integrated into a unique tailgate with a different overall styling.
2027 GMC Sierra 1500 Interior
A large dashboard-mounted display will clearly be a must-have feature on the next-generation GMC Sierra 1500. As you can see, the driver faces a digital instrument panel, and right next to it is a larger touchscreen, which surprisingly uses a horizontal orientation compared to the vertical setup seen on other new GMC models.

More importantly, we can see that the physical buttons remain. There’s a volume control knob near the steering wheel, and the electronic gearshift lever has returned to the steering column. There’s also a row of switches below the center AC vent, and below that are additional physical buttons.
We’ve gotten a great look inside another 2027 Sierra 1500 AT4 prototype, revealing key elements of the new truck’s interior. We now have a look at the Sierra’s all-new interior, featuring a dashboard design and display layout unlike anything we’ve seen in the GMC lineup. The ’27 Sierra 1500 features a large, landscape-style infotainment display that dominates the center console.
The HVAC vents have been moved below the screen, just above a row of GMC’s signature toggle switches. Another row of buttons sits below the console. The transmission tunnel features a storage compartment with what appears to be an inductive phone charger. Cup holders from the Sierra EV pickup appear to be used in this new ICE pickup. A spacious armrest and storage area are also available, covered in camouflage.
The same driver instrumentation display found on the Sierra EV appears to be used on the 2027 Sierra 1500 as well, but while the EV’s display protrudes from the dashboard area, this ICE truck has it all wrapped up in a clean-lined dashboard.
The new Sierra 1500 will use the Sierra EV’s shift lever, eliminating the bulky and cumbersome shift lever from the transmission tunnel, resulting in significantly more space between the front passengers.
Cabin
While the 2027 Sierra 1500 continues to evolve, it will still offer the same cab and bed options. Up front, there will be a two-door Regular Cab, a four-door Double Cab, or a larger four-door Crew Cab.
At the rear, buyers can choose between short, medium, and long tubs. Previous models offered lengths of 5.8 feet, 6.6 feet, and 8.0 feet.
Tech
The current Sierra 1500 already emphasizes technology, and the 2027 redesign will likely enhance that. Instead of the base 7.0-inch and 13.4-inch touchscreens used on the 2026 model, the new 2027 Sierra 1500 will likely feature a standard 16.8-inch touchscreen, similar to the one seen on the Sierra EV.
A standard driver’s display screen can be included, while a head-up display and digital rearview mirror remain optional. Expect plenty of USB-C ports and a wireless charging pad. Hopefully, these technological enhancements won’t replace the traditional, easy-to-use buttons and knobs for basic functions.

2027 GMC Sierra 1500 Engine
In the 2027 Sierra 1500, some powertrain components will likely be carried over from the current generation, and others will be new and improved.
One of the highlights is the new small-block V-8 engine. Power output is expected to exceed the 355 hp and 383 lb-ft of the current 5.3-liter V-8, and the 420 hp and 460 lb-ft of the 6.2-liter V-8.
Fuel efficiency is also expected to be slightly better. The 10-speed automatic transmission is expected to remain with all V-8 engines.
The 2.7-liter turbocharged I-4 engine will likely remain, producing 310 hp and 430 lb-ft of torque through an eight-speed automatic transmission. Similarly, the 3.0-liter Duramax turbodiesel I-6 could return with 305 hp and 495 lb-ft of torque.
Recent changes from the EPA under the Trump administration regarding greenhouse gas emissions rules, CAFE rules, and the elimination of automatic start/stop credits now raise questions about what GM will ultimately do with these new engines.
First, as I’ve discussed, greenhouse gas emissions don’t impact criteria pollutants. Criteria pollutants are gases emitted from diesel and gasoline engines. This means gasoline particulate filters, like the one found in the 2026 Ford F-150, will likely remain.
Next, there’s the automatic start/stop credit. There’s still much speculation about this feature. In fact, automakers plan for this generation of trucks to be on the market for seven years. A new administration could issue an executive order and reinstate the credit.
The new 2027 Silverado 1500 will be the automaker’s first major indication of whether it’s serious about eliminating greenhouse gas emissions credits. For now, it’s all a guess.
Then, there’s the cylinder deactivation system. This is actually part of meeting CAFE regulations. Although President Trump removed the fines, CAFE is still in effect, and the EPA is working on a new CAFE rule that will still include fuel efficiency targets.
Taking this into account, along with their new cylinder deactivation system, as seen in this patent filing, this system will remain in use. This system will use rocker arms instead of lifters.
2027 GMC Sierra 1500 EREV
There’s already an all-electric version of the Sierra, but GMC could introduce an electric powertrain option for the conventional Sierra 1500. How that would work remains unknown. It could be a plug-in hybrid (PHEV) system for the V-8 engine, improving fuel efficiency and performance.
Alternatively, it could adopt an extended-range EV (EREV) configuration, where a smaller engine, such as a turbocharged I-4, is used as a generator for an electric motor that drives the wheels, instead of driving the wheels themselves. Rivals Ford and Ram have announced EREV drivetrains for their half-ton trucks.
Safety
Expect similar active safety and driver-assist features on the 2027 Sierra 1500 as on the 2026 model. These features will likely include automatic emergency braking, rear cross-traffic alert, blind-spot monitoring with trailer coverage, lane-keeping assist, and adaptive cruise control.
General Motors’ Super Cruise hands-free driving system will be optional or included in the truck’s specifications.

2027 GMC Sierra 1500 Release Date
GM’s latest full-size pickup truck is expected to launch later this year, but here’s an early look at the redesigned GMC version’s cabin.
Verdict
The next-generation 2027 GMC Sierra 1500 is shaping up to be a serious evolution of GMC’s flagship pickup. From the bold new exterior cues to a redesigned cabin packed with larger displays and familiar physical controls, the Sierra appears ready to blend modern tech with the practical usability truck owners still expect. Under the hood, a mix of updated V-8 engines, turbo power, and the returning Duramax option should keep the truck competitive against rivals like the Ford F-150 and Toyota Tundra.
Of course, this is still an early look, and several final details remain under wraps until the official reveal later this year. We’ll keep this page updated as soon as new information arrives.
