2024 GMC Canyon teased the next-generation Canyon mid-size truck and confirmed the introduction of the AT4X trim to the Canyon lineup.
The Canyon Pickup Truck will be the second vehicle in the GMC lineup to offer the AT4X trim – driving advanced off-road performance, serious capability, and uncompromising refinement.
Since the current-generation Canyon debuted in 2014, GMC has upgraded midsize trucks over the years to offer the AT4 trim and an off-road performance package that adds a 1-inch suspension leveling kit, off-road rocker panel protection, and front skid plates. and middle.
Most recently, GMC revealed last year’s Canyon AT4 concept, which includes several off-road and overland accessories.
The next-generation Canyon AT4X marks the next chapter for GMC’s mid-size trucks, providing a Canyon AT4X badge crest, rocker guards, and 17-inch Beadlock-capable wheels.
2024 GMC Canyon Review
GMC teased an upcoming hardcore off-road version of Canyon, dubbed the AT4X, in images shared Thursday. Likely in a similar setting to the Chevy Colorado ZR2, the AT4X is also our first look at the 2023 anniversary designs of General Motors’ two midsize trucks.
The company says the next-gen Canyon will be revealed this summer, which is when we’ll also get details about the upcoming AT4X. But it shouldn’t be too hard to guess the formula.
The new GMC Sierra AT4X is likely the red-badged version of the Silverado ZR2, Chevy’s most capable and enthusiast-oriented full-size off-road truck. Since the ZR2 version of Colorado existed, the version with the GMC badge was easy to sell.
From the teaser, we can tell that the new version will take a similar approach to the existing ZR2. The truck was raised compared to today’s standard Canyons and had a large rocker guard to prevent dirt and rocks from scratching the paintwork.
It rides on special wheels that GM confirms are bead-locking capable, wrapped in Goodyear Wrangler all-terrain tires. An earlier report from Muscle Cars & Trucks suggested that 33-inch tires could be on the menu.
Along with a new or upgraded engine, a 2023 GMC Canyon AT4X trim will appear, and it should be similar to the new Chevy Colorado ZR2 model. In the past, the ZR2 model was more capable than the AT4 model.
However, the Canyon AT4X is expected to be just as capable as the Chevy Colorado ZR2 2023. Both trucks will use the updated GMT-31XX-2 body-on-frame platform to enhance ride quality and off-road prowess.
We can speculate that both trucks will have factory-installed suspension lifts, aluminum wheels wrapped in beefy all-terrain tires, improved shocks, improved Multimatic DSSV dampers, stronger skid plates, two-speed transfer boxes, and locking differentials.
Colorado features a new Baja mode for rock crawling, so hopefully, Canyon gets that mode too. Other driving modes include Sport, Off-Road, Eco, and Tow.
Off-Road mode adjusts pedal and throttle response to provide the optimal amount of power during obstacles.

2024 GMC Canyon Features
We expect the next third-generation GMC Canyon to launch in or after the 2023 model year. Until then, we expect the current second-generation Canyon to receive minor changes, updates, and upgrades.
2024 GMC Canyon Redesign
The redesigned GMC Canyon midsize pickup will diverge from its platform counterpart, the Chevrolet Colorado, to more closely resemble another nameplate under the GMC brand.
The two retooled midsize pickups are expected to go on sale next year as the 2024 model. The windshields on both trucks appear more slanted and the overall dimensions appear larger, with an emphasis on aerodynamic improvements.
2024 GMC Canyon AT4X
This 2024 GMC Canyon AT4X gives us more than a few confirmations. Inside we see rock sliders, Beadlock-enabled 17-inch alloy wheels wrapped around 33-inch Goodyear Wrangler Territory MT tires, fender reflectors like the ones we saw on the much larger Sierra HD, the ‘AT4X’ logo, and familiar fuel placement. doors, as well as what looked like built-in doorknobs.
However, the 31XX-2 platform is not a clean design. Rather, it’s an evolution of what we see with today’s 31XX platforms that underpin the current GMC Canyon and Chevrolet Colorado.
At Ford, the next-generation Mustang is undergoing a similar revision, with the S650 platform being an evolution of the current S550 platform. MC&T first revealed details of the 2024 GMC Canyon in 2019.
What the teaser photo doesn’t show are some of the details we’ve previously reported. The first is that the 2024 GMC Canyon AT4X will feature the Multimatic DSSV damper, which was teased on last year’s Canyon AT4X Overlanding concept.
The engine options for the New Canyon and Colorado will be variations of the 2.7L L3B turbocharged four-cylinder we see in the larger Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra.
The interior of the new GM mid-size truck, meanwhile, is expected to be similar to what we saw with the updated Silverado and Sierra, too, with a larger horizontally oriented touchscreen and familiar button/knob layout.
GMC Canyon 2024 Engine
Currently, the Canon GMC has a standard 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine with 200 hp and 191 lb-ft of torque. It’s an adequate start, but this engine will probably go down when the GMC Cayon 2023 arrives.
You can upgrade to a 3.6-liter V6 engine for 308 hp and 275 lb-ft of torque. Also, the Duramax 2.8-liter inline-four diesel engine produces 181 lb-ft and 369 lb-ft of torque.
This engine is available with a six-speed or eight-speed automatic transmission.
The Canyon can accelerate from 0 to 60 mpg in about 6.9 seconds, which is great for a mid-sized truck. It can tow up to 7,700 lbs and has a payload rating of up to 2,068 lbs.
According to Pickup Truck News, the engine can be replaced with a new unit, or it can be optimized to deliver more power. The transmission is expected to remain the same, and a hybrid variant will not appear anytime soon.

2024 GMC Canyon Release Date
It is currently unclear where the next GMC Canyon will be assembled. The current second-generation model is assembled by GM USA at the GM Wentzville plant in Missouri.
