2024 GMC Sierra EV is the latest entrant to the growing electric pickup space. Like its siblings, the Chevy Silverado EV and the GMC Hummer EV, it uses GM’s Ultium battery pack and features a high-power dual-motor drivetrain.
It will go on sale for the 2024 model year, with more trim levels to follow in 2025.
When General Motors first unveiled the Chevy Silverado EV earlier this year, one thing was certain: the GMC Sierra EV wouldn’t be too far behind.
The two trucks have been nearly twins over the years. But now, GMC wants to change that. Guys, I’m bringing you the 2024 GMC Sierra EV Denali Edition 1. While it’s a close cousin to the all-electric Silverado, it’s here to change the way you think about GMC.

2024 GMC Sierra EV Debut
General Motors – like Ford – is investing heavily in electric vehicles, launching its first EV pickup – the GMC Hummer EV – late last year. It then revealed the more direct Ford F-150 Lightning competitor, the Chevy Silverado EV 2024, in January.
However, it’s been clear for some time that the Silverado EV will get an electric counterpart in the form of the proverbial twin – the GMC Sierra. Now, the 2024 GMC Sierra EV has been officially revealed to be a slightly fancier Lightning rival.
The GMC Sierra EV 2024 follows the same basic formula as its predecessor, and also uses GM’s Ultium platform.
However, while several trim levels will eventually become available, the first to launch is the fully loaded Sierra EV Denali Edition 1, which will produce around 754 horsepower and 785 pound-feet of torque in what the automaker calls “Max Power” – enough.
Good for propelling trucks from 0-60 miles per hour in less than 4.5 seconds and provides up to 1,300 pounds of payload and 9,500 pounds of maximum towing capacity.
Just like the Ford Pro Power Onboard, the Sierra EV features an Onboard Power Station Pro, which provides up to 10.2 kW of portable power, as well as bidirectional charging capability. It’s also capable of charging at speeds of up to 350 kW, which adds about 100 miles of range in 10 minutes.
The Denali Edition 1 will be able to travel up to 400 miles on a single charge. The EV pickup uses GM’s Air Ride Adaptive Suspension which can raise or lower it two inches on demand, while the CrabWalk and four-wheel steering are also present and accounted for.
The new expandable MultiPro Midgate bed provides more room for hauling longer items, while the front eTrunk offers additional lockable cargo space.
2024 GMC Sierra EV Interior
The interior seems to really be the focal point for the GM designers working on the Sierra EV. It’s dominated by two very large displays: a Google-backed 16.8-inch vertical display in the center of the dashboard and an 11-inch horizontal display for the gauge cluster.
GMC also has a 14-inch multi-colored heads-up display that projects onto the windshield.
Soft leather and open porous wood can be found throughout the interior. You also have other perks, like cordless phone charging and laser-engraved stainless steel trim. If you look up, you will see a full panoramic roof. One thing the Sierra EV lacks is a starter button.
Just get into the vehicle, hit the brakes, switch to Drive and start. When you exit, the vehicle turns itself off. It’s pretty good, if you ask me.
Inside the cabin the Sierra EV Denali Edition 1 features a large 16.8-inch infotainment screen, 11-inch driver information center, Super Cruise with trailering capabilities, matching porous wood trim, aluminum, etched stainless steel and a wireless charger. wood veneer induction.
Other notable features include a fixed panoramic glass roof, sleek dashboard, and special seat stitching meant to mimic the exterior styling lines.
Unlike GMC’s other electric pickup, the Hummer EV, the Sierra gets a slightly more useful bed that measures 5’11” with a closed tailgate.
Like the Silverado EV, GMC got the GM MultiPro Midgate, which lets you lower the back seat and open the back wall of the passenger compartment to create a 9’1″ bed. If that’s still not enough, you can configure the MultiPro tailgate to extend the floor of the bed up to 10’10”.

2024 GMC Sierra EV Exterior
The first thing you’ll notice about the Sierra EV is its size. GMC doesn’t reveal exact exterior dimensions until the vehicle is closer to production, but we can make some assumptions based on the Silverado EV, which measures 233 inches long and 76 inches high.
We don’t have an official width measurement, but since Chevy and GMC electric pickups don’t have the marker lights that DOT requires, it’s safe to assume the twin’s width is less than 80 inches, although maybe not by much.
At the front, the Sierra EV has a large faux grille, illuminated around its outer rims. Inside is a very large, glowing GMC badge. Flanking the grille are several very large LED lights that greet you when you walk into the vehicle.
You may be fooled into thinking that they are headlights, but they are not. The headlights are actually placed in a small opening just below the DRL.
Open the hood, and you’ll be greeted by great people, just like you’d find on the Silverado EV or Ford F-150 Lightning. Overall, this is a very powerful piece of equipment. A GM spokesperson described it to me as a “fist in the air.”
From the side, the Sierra EV has a relatively simple design, with a few flowing character lines that break up most of it. GM says the all-sheet metal Sierra is unique from the Silverado EV, but the two look very similar.
Above the wheel arch are yellow LED lights, which GMC representatives say is a new staple design for the brand. They’re not federally required, but customers love them, so GMC added them.
All that said, the thing that stands out the most about the Sierra EV is the large 24-inch rims with available 35-inch tires. GM’s twin electric pickup trucks will be the first production vehicles to offer 24s from the factory, though 22s will also be available if you’re a loser.
2024 GMC Sierra EV Denali: Technology and Strength
We haven’t driven the Sierra EV yet, but according to GM estimates, it will be one fast truck. With two motors and GM’s Ultium battery platform, the Sierra EV will make a total of 754 horsepower and 785 lb-ft of torque in “Max Power Mode,” enough to get this big thing from 0-60 in under 4.5 seconds according to GM. .
Denali rides on adaptive air suspension that can raise or lower the truck by as much as 2 inches, and offers four-wheel steering with “Crab Walk”, which tilts all four wheels so the truck can go diagonally.
GMC says the Sierra EV will tow up to 9,500 pounds, and carry payloads of up to 1,300 pounds, beating the electric Ford F-150 Lightning by 1,800 pounds when towed, but not meeting Ford’s 2,235 pound payload rating.
Despite the fact that the Sierra EV is a “fist in the air”, it is still capable of the 400 miles GM estimates on a full charge. That beats the EPA’s estimated 300-mile Lightning range, though the EPA hasn’t published final figures for the GMC just yet.
The Sierra EV will be equipped with 250-kW DC fast charging, which can add up to 100 miles of range in just 10 minutes. Like the F-150 Lightning and Chevy Silverado EV, you can plug electrical equipment into the Sierra EV, or even use it to power your home during a power outage.
Like all high-end GM vehicles today, this fella comes with Super Cruise, a state-of-the-art driver assistance program that I really like. This version is even trailer-capable, a feature GM’s current generation of pickup trucks have.

Under the skin, the 2024 GMC Sierra EV rides on the GM BT1 platform, with a GM Ultium battery and an onboard GM Ultium drive motor for motivation.
The Sierra EV Denali Edition 1 model produces a maximum of 754 horsepower and 785 pound-feet of torque in Max Power mode, which is enough to send the electric truck from 0 to 60 mph in less than 4.5 seconds. The maximum range per charge is estimated at 400 miles.
