2027 GMC Yukon Denali: This GMC Yukon model has served American families for decades as a versatile vehicle. Its spacious interior can comfortably accommodate the whole family, while its powerful engines provide truck-like capability. The AT4 model delivers rugged styling with capable off-road capabilities, while the Denali trim makes it a true luxury SUV with premium options like full-grain leather upholstery, hands-free on-road driving, 24-inch alloy wheels, and massaging seats in the first and second rows. We also love the Yukon’s three engine options: two V8s and a diesel.
2027 GMC Yukon Denali I’ve heard some rumors on the internet today that the 2027 GMC Yukon and 2027 GMC Yukon XL will get a supercharged 6.2L LT4 V8 engine, which would put it in the same class as the high-performance Cadillac Escalade-V.
Several articles circulating online all point to a new Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) document filed by General Motors with the NHTSA. It lists the 2027 GMC Yukon and Yukon XL as being equipped with the LT4 engine. The problem is, GM won’t actually be offering the LT4 engine in the Yukon.
If the LT4 engine is offered in the 2027 GMC Yukon then it will produce 682 horsepower (509 kW) at 6000 rpm and 653 pound-feet (885 Nm) of torque at 4400 rpm, because that’s what it produces in the Escalade-V and Escalade-V ESV.
If the LT4 is offered in the Yukon, it will be paired with GM’s electronically controlled ten-speed automatic transmission with overdrive, tow/haul mode, and tap (up/down) shifting (production code MH0) sending power to all four wheels. And perhaps more importantly, the LT4-powered Yukon will likely use the Typhoon name, as GMC currently lacks a high-performance sub-brand.
Currently, those who want a GMC Yukon with supercharged performance can choose from one of the following aftermarket solutions:
- All GMC Yukon Sport Edition
- One of these GMC Yukon Callaway Supercharged
- Hennessey HP600 GMC Yukon
- PaxPower GMC Yukon
The 2027 GMC Yukon and Yukon XL won’t be offered with a supercharged LT4 engine. But we can imagine what it would be like if it were. And, since you’re interested in accurate GM news, we invite you to subscribe to GM Authority for more GMC Yukon and other GMC news.
GMC Yukon Denali Updates
The 2027 GMC Yukon Denali will not offer the LT4 supercharged V-8 engine, according to General Motors. The company responded to us with the following statement: “General Motors periodically provides updates to the Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) Standard.

Aside from exterior and interior styling differences, there’s not much to distinguish GMC trucks and SUVs from their Chevrolet counterparts. However, it appears the 2027 GMC Yukon lineup will inherit an exciting new engine option from GM’s flagship full-size SUV family.
What to Expect
We expect the 2027 GMC Yukon to be a completely redesigned vehicle, possibly an EV version, although GM hasn’t confirmed that yet. The Yukon was last updated in 2025, when it received upgrades both inside and out. We expect the 2027 model to have a completely new look and feel, especially if there’s an EV variant.
The 2027 GMC Yukon is expected to feature a new look, including a new grille and front fascia, new headlights, and a slightly sleeker appearance. We expect the design changes to flow throughout the large three-row SUV, and the tailgate will also receive a new styling. We expect new taillights, connected by a thin light strip running either above or in the center of the tailgate.

2027 GMC Yukon Denali Specs
Documents submitted to the federal government show that the 2027 Yukon lineup will offer four engine options, up from three for the Chevy Tahoe and Suburban. The Chevy SUV retains its engine options, while documents show the Yukon adds the Cadillac Escalade-V’s LT4 supercharged 6.2-liter V-8.

The document indicates that the Yukon will not receive a new variant for 2027.
With the next-generation GMC Yukon likely to feature an EV powertrain, we’re not yet sure what engine will power this large vehicle. The current version comes with a choice of engines, including a 5.3L V8 producing 355 horsepower and 383 lb-ft of torque, and a 6.2L V8 producing 420 horsepower and 460 lb-ft of torque.
A 3.0L Duramax Turbo-Diesel engine is also available, offering 3.5 hp and 495 lb-ft of torque. This engine is paired with a 10-speed automatic transmission.
We expect to see some version of this engine in the 2027 model, unless the lineup is all-electric vehicles (EVs), then we expect the 2027 Yukon to use the same technology as the GMC Sierra EV or Hummer EV.

2027 GMC Yukon Denali Interior
Inside, we expect GMC to maintain the premium luxury feel they created with their last update, which featured a premium 16.8-inch GMC Infotainment Center as the centerpiece of the interior. This system allows drivers to customize their driving experience, and we expect it to be a focal point of the new cabin.
In 2025, GMC expanded its interior sophistication with the Denali Ultimate and AT4 Ultimate trims. We expect a similar treatment to be applied to the 2027 model.
2027 GMC Yukon Denali Engine
In its latest Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) Standards submitted to the federal government, General Motors notes that the 2027 Yukon will offer four engine options compared to the three available on the Chevy Tahoe and Suburban. Once again, the large SUV will be powered by GM’s L84 5.3-liter V-8, L87 6.2-liter V-8, or LZ0 turbo-diesel 3.0-liter inline-six, but now only the Yukon adds the Cadillac Escalade-V’s LT4 supercharged 6.2-liter V-8 to its VIN standard for 2027.

Indeed, all signs point to GMC re-embracing the spirit of the early 1990s, which spawned the high-performance Typhoon SUV and the Ferrari-beating Syclone pickup truck. However, don’t expect GMC to reuse those names for the LT4-equipped Yukon.
The same VIN that indicates the availability of a supercharged V-8 engine under the hood of the Yukon also indicates that last year’s Elevation, Denali, and AT4 trim levels remain the same. That means the Denali and AT4 trims are entering the new model year with an even more luxurious Ultimate variant.
Therefore, we have to assume that the Denali Ultimate and AT4 Ultimate will be further refined for 2027. We’re betting that both will offer, or even standardize, the hand-built engine that produces 682 horsepower in the Escalade-V.
We hope GMC pairs this engine with chassis tweaks that improve the Denali Ultimate’s more road-focused handling and add to the AT4 Ultimate’s off-road capabilities.
GMC will undoubtedly charge a premium for a Yukon equipped with this powertrain. However, we imagine the Yukon with the LT4 will be less expensive than its cousin from the same company, the $170,895 Escalade-V.
In fact, we imagine the LT4-equipped Yukon Denali Ultimate will offer nearly identical dynamics to the Escalade-V in a less flashy package.
2027 GMC Yukon Denali MPG
As far as we know, the standard V8 engine in the GMC Yukon Denali delivers fuel economy ratings of 15 mpg city/20 mpg highway/17 mpg combined. The larger 6.2-liter V8 is just as efficient but requires premium gasoline, resulting in significantly higher fuel cost estimates.
Meanwhile, the only diesel engine in this class gives the Yukon up to 21 mpg city/26 mpg highway/23 mpg combined. That’s a slightly better combined fuel efficiency rating than the Toyota Sequoia hybrid.
The turbocharged six-cylinder engines in the Ford Expedition, Jeep Wagoneer, and Nissan Armada are all more efficient than the V8 in the Yukon. The Ford and Jeep don’t require premium fuel, but the Nissan does.
2027 GMC Yukon Safety
The GMC Yukon, GMC’s flagship, is equipped with a wealth of safety technologies, including automatic braking for pedestrians and cyclists in front, automatic braking for cross traffic in the rear, side cyclist warning, automatic emergency braking at intersections, automatic emergency braking, a safe distance indicator, lane keeping assist, automatic high beams, front and rear parking sensors, and an HD rearview camera.
In 2025, the Yukon will gain advanced safety technologies that were previously optional, including night vision and thermal object detection. We expect these features to become standard later.
2027 GMC Yukon Price
There’s no starting price for the 2027 GMC Yukon yet, though we expect a redesign and possible EV variant will raise the price. The latest Yukon, on sale at the time of this writing, starts at $60,195 including delivery. We expect the 2027 model to start closer to $65,000.
The GMC Yukon competes with other large three-row SUVs such as the Lincoln Navigator, Chevy Suburban, Toyota 4Runner, and Jeep Grand Wagoneer.
2027 GMC Yukon Release Date
Yukon vehicles typically arrive later in the year, so we expect the 2027 GMC Yukon to arrive in November or December 2026. We will update this page as more information becomes available.
Verdict
The 2027 GMC Yukon Denali continues to prove why the Yukon name has remained a trusted choice for American families for decades. It blends commanding V8 power, genuine luxury, and full-size SUV practicality in a way few rivals manage. While the internet buzz around a supercharged LT4 engine sparked plenty of excitement, official confirmation shows that this high-performance setup won’t arrive in the 2027 lineup. Still, the next-generation Yukon is shaping up to be a major step forward—possibly with bold design updates, refined luxury trims, and even the potential of electrified technology.
What matters most is that the Yukon story is far from finished. As new details surface about engines, design changes, and future variants, we’ll continue tracking every development closely.
